GreenStar Project
OF MODULAR WIRING
Project Overview
The $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) project was a Queensland Government initiative to address the growing health service needs of the Sunshine Coast community.
The scope for the modular wiring package was to ensure that onsite electrical small power and lighting systems were designed to enable a rapid, simple and efficient installation.
This was to be achieved by reducing labour time for the onsite installation, eliminating electrical waste, and increasing quality and safety through SMART installation methods. The Lendlease and Apex team's adopted an early engagement approach to design and deliver a fully integrated solution.
A '6-star' Green Star project
The SCUH facility was recently acknowledged as the largest public healthcare facility in Australia to achieve the buildng industry’s highest honor, with a 6 star rating under the Green Star system for its design and operation.
Modular Wiring's direct contribution towards the green star rating was their solution offered the removal of all PVC cabling and components and replaced with modular wiring utilising the standard XLPE Low Smoke Zero Halogen cable in their pluggable cabling system.
Lendlease’s main objective was to reduce the RISK factors of electrical services in design and onsite. The specific detailed objective outcomes were identified as:
- Increase program certainty for electrical services
- Reduce overall installation time and cost
- Overall improvement of site safety performance
- Zero wastage of electrical components and cabling onsite
- Provide future FM flexibility and traceability
- Achieve sustainability performance
